Former Casa Grande baseball star Spencer Torkelson broke a 35-year-old record held by Barry Bonds in Arizona State’s 8-7 loss to Washington State on Thursday night in Pullman, Washington.

Torkelson broke Bonds’ school freshman record with his 12th home run just 25 games into the ASU season. He then hit No. 13 last Friday, also against Washington State. The former Gaucho is now tied for second in the country in home runs and leads all freshmen.

Torkelson is batting .282 on the season with a .738 slugging percentage and a .381 on-base percentage. He has eight doubles to go with his 13 homers and leads the team with 27 RBIs.
